- Atlético does not publish a verified universal bag-size figure for football matches.
- Bottled drinks and rigid containers are the main practical entry risks.
- The 500g/500ml rule concerns items that could be used as projectiles, not every heavy food item.
- Match-specific instructions and the security assessment at the gate may be stricter than the general rules.
What you can bring to the Metropolitano
For an Atlético de Madrid home match, the safest choice is a small, soft bag containing only the essentials. Bags and personal belongings may be inspected, and anyone who refuses a search can be denied entry. Do not bring bottled drinks or rigid containers made from metal, glass, ceramic, wood or similar materials. Alcohol, weapons, sharp objects and pyrotechnics are prohibited.
Atlético does not appear to publish a universal size limit for football-match bags on its public pages. Do not rely on measurements taken from a concert, another event or another stadium. Match-specific security arrangements may be stricter, and the decision made by staff at the gate takes priority.
| Item | Practical status |
|---|---|
| Small handbag, crossbody bag or waist bag | Not expressly guaranteed, but the lowest-risk bag choice |
| Backpack | No universal public rule found; keep it small, soft and lightly packed |
| Suitcase or large travel luggage | Prohibited; check the stadium consigna before relying on it |
| Folding umbrella | Excluded from the general umbrella ban, but still subject to inspection |
| Golf umbrella or umbrella with a metal or wooden tip | Prohibited |
| Reflex/DSLR camera | Prohibited |
| Compact non-reflex camera | Not clearly specified publicly |
| Power bank | Not clearly specified publicly |
| Medication | Contact the club in advance if specific medication needs authorisation |
| Flag or banner | Prior written approval is required |
The stadium has a luggage-storage service on Paseo de los Colchoneros, next to the Tour and Museum entrance. The general rules do not publish its price, capacity or luggage-size limit. Check the latest matchday information before travelling, because operating arrangements may vary.
Bags, food and drinks
A compact backpack may pass inspection, but the club does not publish a blanket permission for backpacks or a clear-bag requirement. Avoid hiking packs, rigid cases, overfilled bags and anything that could obstruct an aisle or slow the search.
Food and drink rules are often confused, so keep the distinctions clear:
- Bottled drinks: do not bring them. Bottled drinks and their containers are prohibited.
- Rigid containers: containers made from metal, glass, ceramic, wood or similar materials are prohibited.
- Items over 500g or 500ml: the threshold applies when the item could be used as a projectile. It is not a blanket ban on every food item over 500g.
- Smaller food: weighing less than 500g does not guarantee entry. Packaging, rigidity, shape and the security assessment still matter.
The lowest-risk option is to eat before entering or buy food and non-alcoholic drinks inside. A small snack in soft packaging is less likely to cause difficulty than food in a rigid lunchbox, but Atlético does not publish a general permission for all outside food.
Do not treat a small plastic water bottle as a safe exception. The current rules prohibit bottled drinks and their containers. Empty reusable bottles are not clearly approved on the club’s public pages, while metal and glass bottles are plainly unsuitable. Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited, and entry may also be refused to someone under their effects.
Prohibited and restricted items
Do not bring weapons, knives, sharp objects, flares, fireworks, explosives, pyrotechnics, flammable products, smoke-producing products, corrosive substances, alcohol, illegal drugs, selfie sticks, laser pointers, compressed-air horns, metal thermos flasks, reflex cameras, laptops, suitcases, drones or other flying objects.
The list is not exhaustive. Atlético may also refuse objects that could endanger or disturb other people, obstruct access or evacuation, or be thrown.
A folding umbrella is excluded from the general ban covering golf umbrellas and umbrellas with metal or wooden tips. That is not an unconditional admission guarantee: keep it compact and follow the instructions at the gate.
For photos, a mobile phone is the lowest-risk option. Images and short recordings must remain personal and non-commercial. Do not livestream, distribute or commercially exploit match images, video, audio or data. Atlético prohibits reflex cameras and does not publish a sufficiently clear universal rule for every compact non-reflex camera.
Flags and banners require prior written authorisation and must use fire-resistant material. Poles and masts are subject to additional restrictions. If you need medication or medical equipment that may fall within a restricted category, contact Atlético before matchday rather than relying only on documentation at the gate.
Concerts and non-football events may use different entry rules. Check the organiser’s event-specific notice.
How to get through the security check
Have your ticket ready before reaching the turnstile and use the gate assigned to your section. Spectators must cooperate with identification and search procedures. Refusing a search can result in denied entry, and high-risk matches may use reinforced controls.
Pack so that inspection takes seconds. Remove bottles and rigid containers before leaving your accommodation, keep small items together and arrive early enough for the search.
Matchday checklist
- Bring only a small, soft bag.
- Keep your digital ticket ready and your screen bright.
- Remove bottled drinks and rigid containers.
- Do not bring alcohol, weapons, sharp objects or pyrotechnics.
- Leave unconfirmed cameras and electronics at your accommodation.
- Check the latest Atlético match notice and consigna arrangements.
Re-entry is possible only through the club’s scan-out and scan-in procedure between the 30th and 70th minutes, including half-time. The same ticket must be correctly scanned when leaving, and no entry is allowed after the 70th minute.
