The safe rule for all 20 LaLiga grounds this season is to bring only what fits in your pockets. Most clubs that publish a bag rule do leave room for a small bag, though. Of the 13 clubs whose documents say anything about bags, 11 either give a maximum size or ban particular items, such as suitcases, without banning bags or backpacks in general. Barcelona and Osasuna ban backpacks outright.

I checked each club's published rules on 1 November 2026: stadium regulations, ticket conditions, FAQs and notices for visiting fans, plus the two Spanish laws that apply at every ground.

The Metropolitano, the Bernabéu and Camp Nou each have a longer guide of their own: Metropolitano bag policy, Santiago Bernabéu bag policy and Camp Nou bag policy.

The strictest rules leave you with what fits in your pockets

Spanish law sets the same floor everywhere. Ley 19/2007 bans alcohol, weapons and flares, and makes a search a condition of entry. Royal Decree 203/2010 adds drinks and food in metal, glass, ceramic or wood containers, and anything over 500 g or 500 ml that could be thrown.

Most clubs add their own list on top, and no single club has the strictest line on every item. Barcelona bans backpacks and power banks of any size. Athletic Club bans bottles of any material or capacity. Racing lists umbrellas alongside knives and other weapons, with no exception for folding ones. Put those together and the bag, the bottle, the power bank and the umbrella all stay at the hotel.

If your ticket is on your phone, charge it fully before you set off, because at Camp Nou you cannot bring a power bank to top it up.

Almost half the answers in these tables are Not stated

Grounds are in alphabetical order. Not stated means the club and stadium documents I read say nothing on that item; it is not a permission. Lines in italics are briefings that visiting clubs gave their own fans for a European away match; most of them give a month or a season. They are reports, not club rules, and the club's own text comes first.

Two clubs ban backpacks, and only two give a size

Barcelona and Osasuna ban backpacks by name, and Elche bans large ones. Valencia and Betis are the only clubs that put a number on bags, and both figures carry a date. Valencia's 40 × 30 × 20 cm is from a 2019 FAQ answer, and Betis's 25 × 30 cm from a 2022 sheet dating from the Villamarín years, which the club's transparency page still links to. Everywhere else the rules list particular items, such as suitcases, without giving a size, or say nothing about bags, so don't take Valencia's figure to another ground.

Three visiting clubs told their fans that bags up to A4 were allowed at Camp Nou, for matches between December 2025 and March 2026. That is looser than Barcelona's written rule, and I would not rely on it.

Only Atlético's rules offer a bag drop to every fan

Atlético is the only club whose rules offer a bag drop to all fans, on the Paseo de los Colchoneros next to the entrance to the stadium tour, with no fee published. Real Madrid's stadium FAQ also lists one, though the club's other documents say there is none, and Elche's notices for two matches mention a drop point for items that cannot be taken in. Valencia, Athletic Club, Deportivo and Celta take only certain items, such as pushchairs or motorbike helmets, and Athletic tells fans to leave suitcases at a bus station. Barcelona, Betis and Osasuna say there is none.

Real Madrid's documents contradict each other. The access rules (September 2025), the ticket FAQ and the January 2026 guide for visiting fans say the Bernabéu has no cloakroom. The stadium FAQ, on an undated General tab that covers every event, says there is one outside, with location and price depending on the event. Plan as if there is no cloakroom at the Bernabéu, and leave luggage at your hotel.

Bottles: the same 500 ml line, opposite answers

Royal Decree 203/2010 bans anything over 500 ml that could be thrown, and Barcelona, Valencia, Betis and the Bernabéu's stadium FAQ allow a small bottle within that limit, with the cap off. Athletic Club, Villarreal and Rayo want your drink in a cup instead. At San Mamés you bring your own soft plastic cup and pour the bottle into it in front of club staff. To be safe at all 20, leave the bottle behind.

Food rules mostly follow the law. Rayo also bans sunflower seeds and nuts, Elche bans sunflower seeds and nuts in their shells, and Valencia wants any fruit peeled and cut before you arrive. The press reported in 2025 that Valencia had banned sunflower seeds too; I did not find that ban in Valencia's documents.

Only two clubs mention power banks, and both ban them

Barcelona bans power banks of any size, and Betis's 2022 sheet bans them too. The other 18 clubs' documents say nothing, and away-club briefings give both answers, sometimes for the same ground. If you take one to a ground that does not ban them, keep it small. The briefings that allow them ask for small or phone-sized ones.

Six clubs say a folding umbrella is fine, and Racing lists umbrellas with weapons

Twelve clubs mention umbrellas. Ten ban only certain types, such as golf umbrellas, long ones or metal tips, and six of those say outright that a folding or short umbrella is fine. Racing's 2026/27 rules list umbrellas alongside knives and other weapons, with nothing said about folding ones. Real Madrid's documents disagree. Its internal rules from 2018 use the same wording as Racing's, but its ticket FAQ bans only golf umbrellas and those with metal or wood tips.

Atlético's own documents disagree on umbrellas. Its rules exclude folding umbrellas from the ban, but the Metropolitano's "Plan your visit" page shows an umbrella among the banned items, and the text gives no exception.

Leave during the match and you will usually not get back in

Only Atlético's and Real Madrid's rules set out a way to leave and come back during a match. At the Metropolitano you can leave and return between the 30th and 70th minute, as long as your ticket is scanned on the way out. At the Bernabéu you get one return, and if you left in the first half you can only come back from half-time. Nine other clubs write that once you leave, you cannot return. Deportivo's rules say the same unless the club sets up a re-entry procedure for that match, and Racing's ban applies only while entry checks are running. Betis, Deportivo, Málaga and Sevilla also stop late arrivals after a set point in the match.

Selfie sticks, cameras, helmets and smoking differ club by club

Selfie sticks are banned at the Metropolitano, San Mamés, Riazor and the Sánchez-Pizjuán, while Valencia's sheet shows one among the allowed items. SLR cameras are banned at the Metropolitano and the Sánchez-Pizjuán, and Barcelona bans professional cameras with interchangeable lenses. Valencia accepts an SLR as long as the lens is not professional-sized, but Athletic's FAQ says photos and video may only be taken on your own phone.

Real Madrid lets a motorbike helmet in if you show ID at the gate. Athletic, Betis, Deportivo, Málaga and Rayo ban helmets, and so do the icons on Atlético's venue page.

The Metropolitano, the Bernabéu, Mestalla and the Coliseum ban both smoking and vaping inside, and San Mamés, Riazor, Mendizorroza, La Rosaleda and the Martínez Valero ban smoking. Atlético keeps marked smoking areas on the stadium's outdoor platforms. Barcelona is the only club whose list bans carrying an e-cigarette into the ground at all.

Away-club briefings fill gaps in the clubs' rules, and sometimes contradict them

Before European away games, visiting clubs send their fans a briefing on what to bring. The ones in the tables are dated 2024 to 2026 and cover the Metropolitano, the Bernabéu, Camp Nou, Anoeta and Balaídos. Each describes the away entrance for one match only.

Every briefing in the tables gives a bag size, which among the clubs only Valencia and Betis do, and the sizes differ even at the same ground. They can also contradict the club. Inter told its fans in November 2025 that re-entry at the Metropolitano was strictly forbidden, although Atlético's rules allow it.

Some briefings add bans that no club document mentions. Tottenham's for the Metropolitano in March 2026 banned walking sticks and crutches, and Copenhagen's for Camp Nou in January 2026 said that, according to Barcelona, all types of cigarettes would be confiscated at the entrance. Espanyol's rules spell out that, at matches declared high-risk, security staff can widen the banned list without notice. At Mendizorroza in January 2026, searches at the turnstiles took scarves and a sweatshirt linked to the Iraultza supporters' group, on the decision of the Basque police security coordinator; the local press reported that most were handed back after the game.

How I checked, and when this page is updated

Apart from the italic reports, every entry in the tables comes from documents published by the club, the stadium, LaLiga or the Spanish state gazette (BOE), which I read on 1 November 2026. For scanned PDFs I searched the full text and read the relevant pages by eye. I did not fill gaps from third-party guides or from other grounds' rules, and fan forum posts are not included. The documents are listed below with their dates.
