If you are going to the Santiago Bernabéu as an away supporter, your ticket comes from your own club and from nowhere else. The section is at the top of Fondo Norte, the north end. Real Madrid tells visiting fans to be near the ground at least two hours before kick-off, and at past matches lengthy checks have still left supporters outside when play began. This is for Atlético supporters going to the derby in April 2027, and for anyone following a European club to Madrid in the Champions League.

Away seats at the Bernabéu are sold only by the visiting club

Real Madrid prints the rule on every match ticket page I checked. For league games it cites Spain's Royal Decree 203/2010: away tickets are sold "exclusivamente a través del Club/SAD visitante", in a zone kept apart from the home crowd, and away fans holding tickets bought "por otros canales" outside that zone can be refused entry. The English version on the Champions League pages says that tickets for RB Leipzig's visit on 21 October 2026 "can only be purchased through RB Leipzig". The section itself is in the upper tiers of Fondo Norte, the third and fourth amphitheatres, towards the north-east corner. Block numbers and the view from up there are in the Santiago Bernabéu seating guide.

In the Champions League the visiting club is guaranteed a share. UEFA's regulations give the away side at least 5 per cent of capacity, which at the Bernabéu has meant 3,875 tickets for Atlético in March 2025 and the same number for Manchester City in December 2025, and MilanNews reported about 3,800 Milan fans in a full away section in November 2024.

I found no LaLiga rule like UEFA's. LaLiga's Grada Visitante agreement for 2025-26 sets a minimum share by stadium size and a €30 price cap, but only among its 14 member clubs; Atlético is one and Real Madrid is not, so it is unlikely to cover the derby at the Bernabéu. For the Copa quarter-final between the two clubs in January 2023, COPE and AS reported that the home side was not obliged to hand over a minimum, and COPE, AS and Goal all reported that Atlético's supporters received 334 tickets, against 4,022 applications according to COPE and AS. AS reported three days later that the federation planned to require 5 per cent in future editions of the Copa; whether that rule was adopted is not confirmed here.

Napoli's ticket notice in 2023 said the price of its away seats, €65, was Real Madrid's to set. Milan's cost €62 in 2024, and TuttoJuve reported that Juventus supporters paid €50 in October 2025. For 2026/27, UEFA caps the away price at €50. Milan's section sold out within four hours, MilanNews reported.

How the ticket reaches you depends on your club, and sometimes on the match. Manchester City issued paper tickets for collection at the Etihad for its visit in December 2025, then had mobile tickets sent direct from Real Madrid in March 2026. Milan's were named and non-transferable, and had to be collected in person with ID and the CRN card used to buy them. Napoli's supporters first bought a voucher that, the club's notice said, "non costituisce titolo valido per l'accesso". I would go by what your own club sends and by nothing else.

For the derby, Atlético members' applications close 48 hours after the kick-off time is set

Real Madrid's fixture announcement in June put the derby at the Bernabéu on 3-4 April 2027, matchday 30 of LaLiga. Its ticket page for the match lists 4 April with "fecha y hora por confirmar", date and time to be confirmed, so Saturday is still possible and the kick-off time has not been set.

That time matters to Atlético members because it starts the clock. Under Atlético's notice for 2026-27, published on 6 July for all away matches, any member can apply, with or without a season ticket and including children, through the "Partidos fuera de casa" section of the Área Personal, alone or in a group of up to six. Applications close 48 hours after the kick-off time is confirmed. If requests outnumber seats, they go by length of membership, using the average for a group, and the members who get them then pay. The tickets are paper, named and non-transferable, collected in the host city at a place and time the club announces. At the turnstile you show the ticket, a wristband the club puts on each person, and your DNI. If the name does not match, entry is refused and the member is sanctioned. The paid Red & White programme does not include away tickets.

Among the Atlético announcements I checked, the Champions League derby in March 2025 is the only one that gives the number of seats. Atlético received 11,217 applications for 3,875 seats at €60, which the club described as UEFA's maximum price for away fans, and the cut-off fell at 15.24 years of membership. The notices for the league derbies of 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2024 give a price of €90 or €95 but not the number of seats; the 2020 notice put every one of them in the fourth amphitheatre. The 15.24 years came from a Champions League allocation, and none of those league notices gives a figure, so I would not treat it as a guide to April.

Line 10 is the open question for April, so plan the trip north both ways

Dortmund's 2024 guide, the one Milan's official supporters' association AIMC handed out that year, and third-party guides updated in 2026 still tell you to take metro Line 10 to Santiago Bernabéu station, which is closed while it is rebuilt. Since late August 2026, Line 10 has run between Plaza de Castilla and Cuzco, and the section from Cuzco to Nuevos Ministerios is closed until the end of the year, Telemadrid reported.

For a Champions League night this autumn, Cuzco is still open at the northern end of the closed section, and it is the station Marseille named for the meeting point on Avenida de Brasil in September 2025. Stuttgart's 2024 guide sent fans on Line 1 to Estrecho, ten minutes' walk from the meeting point. Plaza de Castilla, where Atlético's supporters gathered in March 2025, is on Lines 1, 9 and 10, outside the closure. Dortmund's guide said the metro runs until about 01:30.

The new Bernabéu station is targeted for the first quarter of 2027, which ends three or four days before the derby weekend. If it opens on time, Line 10 should stop at the stadium again. Nothing published so far says how the line will run in April if the station is late, so I would check CRTM, the Madrid transport authority, in the days before the match and keep the autumn routes as the fallback. The Santiago Bernabéu transport guide covers the replacement bus and the walk up from Nuevos Ministerios.

Several European visitors have met on Avenida de Brasil, ten minutes' walk from the ground

Several clubs visiting for European matches have used Avenida de Brasil as their meeting point since at least 2023. It is about ten minutes on foot from the stadium. Union Berlin called it the central meeting point recommended by Real Madrid and the Spanish authorities, and Dortmund, Stuttgart, Milan and Marseille sent their fans there too. The AIMC guide said food and drink could only be had inside the bars, with takeaway banned. The time comes from your club: Stuttgart wanted its fans there by 18:00 for a 21:00 kick-off, and Marseille's meeting time in 2025 was also 18:00. Stuttgart's fans were to be gathered there and walked to the away entrance by police, and the club could not promise that anyone would be allowed to leave the escort. Real Madrid's own guidance for visiting fans, dated January 2026, tells them to avoid the southern side of the stadium, "as it is frequented by home team supporters".

At the Champions League derby in March 2025, Eldesmarque reported, Atlético's supporters gathered at 17:30 at Plaza de Castilla for a 21:00 kick-off, for a march of about 25 minutes down the Castellana escorted by the Policía Nacional, the municipal police and Protección Civil, with intensive searches planned before entry. Fans without tickets were expected to walk with them as far as Plaza de Cuzco. I found no report of how the league derbies of 2025 and 2026 were handled, so for April the meeting point and the time are whatever Atlético announces.

Dortmund asked its fans to stay restrained with the police at all times, saying that "the Spanish police will take firm action in the event of minor incidents". Before Benfica's play-off visit on 25 February 2026, Eldesmarque reported, police charged a group of Benfica supporters near the stadium and some apparently needed medical attention; the report does not say what led to the charge. Dortmund's advice is the one I would follow.

Real Madrid says to be there two hours early, and the away queue has run past kick-off before

The same January 2026 document from Real Madrid's security department says the away entrance at Tower D "will normally open one hour and 30 minutes before kick-off but may open earlier at the discretion of the police", and advises visiting fans to be in the vicinity of the stadium at least two hours before. The 2019 version, which Huesca published before the redevelopment, gave the same 90 minutes. Several visiting clubs announced a two-hour opening for their Champions League nights: Union in 2023, Manchester City for its 2023 semi-final, Dortmund and Milan's AIMC guide in 2024, and Benfica in February 2026. Go by the time issued for your match. Benfica, Dortmund and AIMC named the entrance as 37, while Real Madrid's document and Union's 2023 guide call it Tower D. Eiserne Hilfe, the legal-aid group for Union's fans, warned of a lot of stairs from the entrance up to a very steep block.

Lengthy checks have left supporters outside when play began. At Union's visit in September 2023, with the gate opening two hours before kick-off, the fan magazine Faszination Fankurve reported that the club's fan scene met at Puerta del Sol at 13:30, that police held up its march towards the stadium there and that, according to the fans, they held it up again after the metro ride. At the away entrance around 4,000 fans found only two tents open, where everyone was to be checked three times, and roughly 400 were still outside at kick-off. A year later the fan site Fussballmafia described Stuttgart's supporters waiting more than 75 minutes outside, without toilets and packed so tightly they could not move, while police let groups of about 50 through to three lanes. I found no similar reports for Dortmund in October 2024 or Milan the month after, and none of the reports covers a league derby crowd.

Both accounts describe the police controlling the flow, holding up a march in one and letting people through about 50 at a time in the other, and a supporter has no say in either. That is why I would treat the opening time as the time to be through the checks rather than the time to arrive, and leave slack everywhere else: be at the meeting point on your club's time, or before it. Dortmund told its fans to arrive "as early as possible" because of the several checks by security and police. Bring the ticket and the ID you bought it with: Stuttgart said entry would be refused if the names did not match, and Atlético members need the ticket, the wristband and the DNI together.

The away guides from Manchester City in 2023, Marseille in 2025 and Benfica in 2026 all set A4 as the bag limit. Real Madrid's access regulations say the stadium has no left-luggage service, and Benfica added that there is nowhere at the away entrance to leave anything refused at the gate. Marseille told its fans to leave their things on the coach or at the hotel. The guides disagree on power banks, so read yours; what Real Madrid's own rules say is in the Santiago Bernabéu bag policy guide. Dortmund's guide sent wheelchair users to entrance 40, and Manchester City's 15 wheelchair places in December 2025 were in the home section.

Inside there is no alcohol, flags need clearing first, and the police decide when you leave

There is no alcohol in the away section. Spanish sports law bans bringing it into grounds, selling it and drinking it there, and the AIMC guide said alcoholic drinks could not be consumed inside the stadium. What Union's fans were offered in 2023 was alcohol-free beer and soft drinks.

Flags and drums are cleared match by match. Real Madrid's 2026 guidance sets 2 m by 1 m as the maximum for banners and flags, which must be inspected and authorised by security staff and cannot be attached to rigid supports. Visiting clubs have sometimes given other limits for their own matches, 2 by 1.5 metres for Union in 2023 and Benfica in 2026, so check yours. Dortmund's fans had to register fence flags in advance with a photo and could bring a drum and a megaphone already allocated to them; flagpoles of any kind were banned, and Benfica said the same. Stuttgart warned that clothing or scarves bearing the word "Ultras" could be banned in Spain.

When the match ends, expect to wait in the block. Real Madrid's January 2026 guidance says visiting supporters "may be held for approximately 20 minutes, depending on the result and circumstances", and that the police make the decision; its 2019 version said about 15. Union were told about 30 minutes in 2023, and their legal-aid group said at least 30. Dortmund said a closure was possible, with toilets and kiosks open during it, and Manchester City that fans could be kept until the police judged it safe. By my arithmetic a 21:00 kick-off finishes at about 22:50 once half-time and some stoppage time are added, so a hold of 20 to 30 minutes ends at roughly 23:10 to 23:20, later if the police keep the section longer. I cannot put a time on the stairs down from the top tier, or on any police arrangements outside after that. The metro runs until about 01:30. If that changes where you want to sleep, the guide to Madrid hotels for a match day covers it.

No rule bans away colours, but I would not wear them in a home section

When Marca reported in January 2023 that Atlético shirts would be kept out of the Bernabéu, Real Madrid answered with a statement: "El Real Madrid no ha prohibido nunca la entrada al estadio Santiago Bernabéu a aficionados con camisetas del equipo rival." (Real Madrid has never barred fans in the rival team's shirt from the stadium.) No ban on away colours appears in the match pages, the access regulations or Real Madrid's 2026 guidance for visiting fans, and I found nothing in Spanish sports law that does.

The rules are about the ticket instead. The match-page wording has two conditions: an away fan whose ticket was bought "por otros canales", somewhere other than through the visiting club, and who is not in the away zone. Real Madrid's 2026 guidance is blunter: visiting supporters "will not be allowed to purchase tickets in the areas designated for Real Madrid fans", and "any spectators found in these areas may be expelled without a refund". An older LaLiga information sheet for the Bernabéu lists "actuaciones de aficionado visitante en zona local" among the grounds for refusing entry or removing someone, where it puts safety and public order at risk. Visiting clubs have told their own fans to keep club clothing out of the home areas. Union did so in 2023, and Stuttgart said in 2024 that recognisable fans who were not dressed neutrally, in white, could be turned away at the entrance or removed from other parts of the stadium.

So I would not wear club colours in a home section. An Atlético supporter in a home seat at the derby meets both conditions on the match page and falls under the 2026 guidance, and this guide does not cover ways of getting such a seat. None of the rules quoted here is against an ordinary shirt in the away section itself.

Gate arrangements may differ by match, and the derby's date and kick-off time are still to be confirmed. I will update this article when visiting clubs publish their 2026-27 fan information and when the derby kick-off time is set.
